Black Adam or Whack Adam
After hearing about the below average reviews from both critics and DC fans and the departure Dwayne Johnson from the DCU, I thought it was about time to give the Black Adam movie a shot.
Played by Dwayne Johnson, Black Adam, one of the DC's greatest super villains and arch-nemesis to the super hero Captain Marvel (also known as Shazzam) would get his own movie in 2022.

After watching it for myself for first time, I could not wrap my head around where all the negativity was coming from. I was not expecting top tier acting but to my surprise, both acting and character interactions was better than I expected. For example, the rivalry between Hawk-man (played by Aldis Hodge) and Black Adam had been well developed putting a skeptical yet courageous hero against a mysterious and vengeful antihero. This plot is very similar to another DC movie, Zack Snyder's 2016 Batman vs Superman where the heroes have to assess the intentions of the antihero ending in a fight between two giants until both are forced to team up to save the world against a greater enemy.
Although the future of Black Adam in the DCU is unclear, the character development of the heroes within the Justice Society has made me hopeful. One of my favorite characters in the movie, Cyclone, played by Quintessa Swindell, reminds me a lot of the Scarlet Witch from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The similarities could possibly spark the idea of a Cyclone leading role in a movie or TV show if the character gains enough popularity. Dr. Fate (Alias Kent Nelson), played by Pierce Brosnan, was another strong character in the movie. My hopes is that one day the DCU will also give us a stand alone Dr. Fate movie where we will get a glimpse into how a young Kent Nelson was first introduced to the Lords of Order.

At then end of the day, the prime reason for Black Adam's failure in the box office is due to Dwayne Johnson's long running lack of success in being the main star of his movies. All of Johnson's box office hits came from big name movie franchises such as The Fast and the Furious and The Mummy. Johnson always had strong supporting cast members such as Kevin Heart or was himself a supporting cast member. If the marketing campaign for Black Adam had placed more emphasis on more notable actors and the heroes they portrayed, Black Adam may have been a blockbuster. Maybe James Gunn will use this movie as a way to introduce the newer characters into their own leading roles within the DCU then Black Adam's failure would not have been for nothing.
