Secret Love affair with Cosplay

For many years now the world of cosplay has held a special lure in my life.  I have always admired those who enjoy doing cosplay.  It is so much more than dress-up.  When you put on these carefully created “costumes,” you also put on a persona, the character. You, in essence, become who you are dressed as.  I had just never known anyone personally who did it.  Nor did I feel it was truly accessible to me.  I don’t have the body, money, or skills to get into it.”

Then in the last several years I was introduced to a group of people who love all things nerd, and this included cosplay.  And they all had differing levels of skills with the art. I was thrown headfirst into it.  And as many say the bug has bit me.

This past year has brought me to my first con and my first cosplay.  I discovered that making a cosplay character is more about the creativity and creating the ‘essence’ of the character.  I can take any character and make them my own, to fit my personal style, modesty, and body.  And as a plus size person closet cosplays are amazing.  I was able to take fashion and mold it into my characters.  It didn’t matter that there were no pre-made ‘costumes’, I took normal everyday clothes and made them into my first characters: Blaze and Carmen.

Cosplay has also unlocked a creativity in me that I had locked away (for the most part) when I started nursing school.  Watching all the cosplayers out and seeing my friends had photo images and poses springing to mind.  This brought me to the floor to capture photos of a friend’s cosplay.   These have further unlocked inspirations for drawing and even painting.  And while these are a far cry from some of the crazy beautiful art out there, I have loved uncovering this hidden side of myself.  While I may never done many cosplays, I love the chance to capture the beauty of others work, whether in photo, sketch, or canvas.

As 2022 begins, I have images and dreams of diving further in my relationship with Cosplay and have even bigger plans for my next cosplays!

So fellow secret cosplayers I encourage you to join me in this amazing realm of Nerdom.

The Fitness Boxing We've All Been Waiting For (Fist of the North Star Review)

Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star (Review)     Over the weekend Nintendo released its third game of the Fitness Boxing franchise. Fist of the North Star is the Fitness Boxing we’ve been waiting for. This new installment incorporates characters from the 1986 Mark III video game Fist of the North Star.       Nintendo attempted a sequel to Fitness Boxing which seemed more like an overpriced DLC. Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm and Exercise included two brand new instructors and a new playlist of music. Being a fan of Fitness Boxing since the first game was released in 2018, I was looking for a new version to give me more ways to track my progress.       With all of the old trackers from the original game, Fist of the North Star adds new achievements as well as a way to track your accuracy as a Southpaw and Orthodox fighting style and a new daily challenge each day. Unfortunately you are unable to sync your progress from the older games but wit...

Minecraft Dungeons

Minecraft Dungeons Being a fan of dungeon crawlers since the classic Gauntlet Legends, you could imagine my excited when I found out that the creators of Minecraft had created a dungeon crawler within the Minecraft universe.   I first started playing Minecraft in 2020 on my MacBook. Only playing in creation mode, I would tunnel through mountains and caverns, creating my own kind of dungeon crawler experience. Fast forward, 3 years later, my dream comes true when I find out that Minecraft Dungeons was created for RPG gamers like me who wanted a Minecraft game with a Diablo feel. Finding loot, killing zombies and customizing my character build, Minecraft Dungeons gives me all the feels of a classic top/bottom dungeon crawlwr. Unlike, Diablo however, this game is for the whole family to enjoy. Minecraft Dungeons is the perfect game for both advanced RPG gamers and first-timers.   Writer KhanOfCons  khanofcons@gmail.com
